TERM 2 FUNKY ART

The Emu's Leg

The Emu's Leg

The Emu's leg is very long and stiff because it needs to be strong to carry the Emu.
It is found in Australia where it is hot and dry like desert.
The Emu's legs are very skinny so they can run fast to escape from their predators.
It has three blunt toenails.  The middle toenail is longer than all the others.
If you  feel the Emu's leg, it is really hard, scaly and bumpy.
When you look at the Emu, it has dark black scales and grey white toenails.
The Emu's leg size is about 40cm long.  It has long feet but the feet aren't as wide as humans.

The Emu's leg is dark black with big scales on it.  The emu has toenails that are quite long.
You find emus in the dry hot place of Australia.  The emus run fast and easily escape from predators. The emu's leg is like a long stalk and the foot is a half star shape.  The length of the leg is about 40cm  but is not as wide as a human's.
That is my description of the emu's leg.

Well, the middle toenail is the longest .  The emu's leg is long because they can run fast away and escape from predators that are going to prey on the emu.
The size of the emu's leg is about 40cm long and the foot is not bigger than a humans.  Also, the emu's leg is shaped like half star shape.  It has really hard scales and feels bumpy.

The leg of an is emu is quite tall and thin.  An emu's leg is black, also a bit grey with scales and blunt nails.
It is really hard, scaly, bumpy and rough.  Also, if you touch the nails, it would not be sharp.  Did you know an emu's middle toe is longer than the others?  The foot is 40cm long but the foot is not as wide as a humans.
When you look at the foot closely, the toes are arranged like a six star shape.  The leg is like a long stalk.
The emu is a very fast runner because it can't fly.  It runs to escape from predators.
Emus can be found in bright sunny deserts and dry burning hot places.
That is the end of my description of the emu's leg.

THE VENUS FLYTRAP

Hello everyone.

A syndicate newsletter will be coming out next week to let you know all the wonderful things happening this term.  Great to see room 10 back.  We have had a very busy week writing descriptions of the Venus Flytrap and even a description of an Emu's leg that has come from Australia.  There is some awesome writing coming from room 10 children.

Children have been asked to bring in interesting objects from home to write about and describe.

The Amazing Venus Flytrap

The Venus Flytrap is a small plant that grows out of ground.  You will see it in wet boggy places.  It has between 14 and 20 teeth on each of it's lobes.  They are stiff hairs called cilia.  The hairs on the Venuys Flytraps are so hairy that you might like to touch it.

The Venus Flytrap

The venus fly trap is part of the plant family. They have almost 14-30 or even more heads. If a fly goes by it will be attracted to the delicious honey scent from the traps head. When you touch the cilia in the inside of the head, it will snap shut as fast as lightning. When it is in the mouth, it will be digested in a poisonous acid so that the poor fly gets eaten slowly by the ferocious trap.
You can find this trap growing in wet, boggy places because they need to kept moist. Sometimes you can find them in shops like Mitre 10 Mega which can be found in Masterton. The Venus Flytrap is one of many meat eating plants but the fly trap is native to New Zealand and also another plant like the Pitcher plant.

The Fly Killer!

The Venus Flytrap can be massive or small.  The massive one is red all over it's 'mouth' but the smaller ones have green mouths.  They have this honey smell which attracts the bug to it's mouth.  It is quite small - about 30cm away from the ground.
The plant preys on the insect by waiting awhile for a fly to land on the pointy sharp teeth called cilia which triggers the mouth to shut.  The dangerous poison gently kills the fly.
It's texture is stiff and hairy.  The Venus Flytrap grows out of the boggy soil in some places.  You can sometimes find the red ones in the flower shops.

The Venus Flytrap is part of the plant family.  When you touch the cilia inside the head, it will snap shut but it will only digest things that fit inside them.
The colour of the Venus Flytrap is green and the colour inside is crimson.  There is also a dark green colour on the little leaves.  You can't see much of the soil because of all the little leaves.
Inside the 'mouth' there is poison to go on the fly.  After the fly has been digested, the trap will open up.
The Venus Flytrap grows in wet and boggy places.
The size of the Venus Flytrap is small.  The biggest size is 30cm.  It has a roundish head with a lot of cilia in the mouth of the trap.  It also has tiny leaves that can hide all of the boggy wet soil.  There can be very long stems for the heads of the Venus Flytrap so they get to go higher to catch the bug and make the fly dinner.
The Venus Flytrap lives in wet boggy places like a swamp but people find them and take them to other places sometimes and put them in a pot to sell them at plant shops to help people get rid of all the flys.  Most of the world has problems with fly.
Venus Flytraps are completely harmless to humans.
